Waiver rule: All players coming up from the minors or from the NL are subject to waivers.
Prior to the All Star Break, the waiver order is inverse order
of record. Waiver pickups prior to the ASB do not change the waiver order. The last place
team can "load up" on players if they remain in last and they select multiple players. At
the All Star Break, the current standings are used to set the post-ASB waiver order by inverse
order of record. Any waiver pickup after the ASB moves the picking team to the back of the order.
This ordered is enforced for the rest of the season. Prior to September, no team can make more than 4 moves per week (Monday-Sunday) that are not injury related. To be injury related, a move need only be motivated by an injury. The player cut need not be on the DL. Teams still have unlimited injury moves pre-September. Basler amendment: Beginning in 2007, the League rules are amended to state that no player can be cut and replaced by a player from the free agent pool after 11:59 PM CST on September 1 unless he has: (a) been placed on the DL; (b) been traded to the NL; (c) not appeared in three consecutive of his team's games (in the event of a position player); or (d) not appeared in five consecutive of his team's games (in the case of a pitcher). Players may be cut after 11:59 PM CST on September 1 and replaced by players coming off of the DL as well. Also, all trades must be executed prior to September 1 at 11:59 PM CT.
