After an extended absence, as most of you know, I have been allowed back to the SL after one sub .500 season way back in 1997 (Mobile Trailer Homers). Given the opportunity to guest manage a large portion of the 2007 season, I have re-stoked the cometitive fire that is apba baseball and greatly look forward to 2008.  It is at this time, with great anticipation from the league im sure, that i shall announce (officially) my 2008 SL team name, which, as you know, is extremely important to a teams success or failure. (see karma and intangibles) After much consideration, (Jim Falls, Yo Mammas, Giddy Ups) I have decided to pay homage to one of my favorite places on the planent and still tie in a baseball reference.   Drum rolllllllllllllll...The Jim led apba 2008 SL team shall from hence forth be referred to as                           CHOKOLOSKEE GRAND SLAM This team name, coming from the island in the everglades for which my friend Brock and I launched his boat for countless fishing trips (and countless "benders") the past 8 years.  This mosquito haven, is about as far from civilization as one can get and only be a couple of hours from civilization.  The locals, all of which are "sweet" consist largely of men avoiding the law, and women who have less teeth than the average first grader, everyone can bait a hook though.  None of that description was a joke nor exaggeration. "Grand Slam" is a fishing reference for a good day on the water when you are good/lucky enough to catch 4 of the most sought after salt water- shallow water fish.  The 4 fish every angler is after out of Chokoloskee island is #1 the holy grail of s. fla sport fishing-SNOOK. #2 Redfish. #3 Tarpon #4 Sea Trout.  There is such a thing as a "super slam" which adds, your choice, Bonefish or Permit.  (permit being more of an offshore fish, but can be had not too far out of chokoloskee)  In all the fishing trips we made, about 1 a month, we had our fair share of Grand SLams, which is actually quite impressive for 2 drunks that had little or no idea what they were doing. I will truly miss these trips, and to honor its memories, the 2008 SL team shall remind me daily. Thank you for your time and patience.  24 days until draft day.
