Game 2 of the ABA All Star series moves to the land of blondes and opium dens, which explains the mysterious disappearance of more than one of the ABA GMs. No puns like, "Wow he really smoked that ball, Harry" will be allowed. Commemorative t-shirts sold at the game had Mays on the front and Aaron on the back. Eager to see American baseball in the flesh the stands were filled with a rollicking assortment of Swedes- none of whom were willing to choose a side.
Game 2 Mays starter is Barry Zito. After last year.s abysmal season it appears he.s finally realized his potential. In the ABA lefties get pounded like a piņata at an Overeaters Anonymous Fourth-of-July bash! But, Zito has turned in consistent start after start facing the opposing #1 starter. Aaron starter Jason Schmidt sure didn.t expect to be the #2 starter on the Aaron All Stars when the season began, but here he is facing Barry Zito and the Mays All Stars.
The pitchers duel that never materialized in game one showed up in game 2. Zito was outstanding through 6 2/3 innings, but Schmidt was dazzling. Mays batters flailed in a narcotic stupor and succeeded only once when Blalok singled in the first inning. In the 7th and 8th Schmidt struck out five-in-a row by the names of Pujols, Soriano, Helton, Ordonez, and Posada. Gagne tossed in a 1-2-3 9th for the save wit the only drama being Blalok's drive to the wall in left for the final out.
The Aarons go up 2-0.
